Merz b Schwanen have been producing high quality traditionally crafted knitwear in the German Swabian Jura since 1911. T-shirts, sweaters and socks are are woven on antique circular knitting machines (to produce a garment without side seams) and designs are based on authentic clothing from the early to mid twentieth century, including meticulously copied physical training apparel used by the German Army in the 1960's

'The best non denim trouser on the market'. I think so. well made: Zenmai hooks

Designed by Oji Masanori, Zenmai hooks are part of a series of contemporary household products cast in brass and made by Japanese metalware specialist Futagami, a company that have been producing handcrafted brass and bronze objects for over 100 years. Originally designed in 1953 and updated in 1994, Sori Yanagi's wide based water kettle is made for rapid boiling and easy pouring. well made: Hudson Bay point blanket

100% wool and still loomed in England for The Hudson Bay Company, Canada, these iconic multi-stripe blankets have been around since the 18th century and were originally traded with Native Americans for fur pelts. Each Bay Blanket is graded by points (thin indigo lines) stitched in to one side of the blanket to represent size and weight. Available via The Old Faithful Shop. well made: Roberu camera strap

Japanese brand Leather Factory Roberu have been making premium quality leather goods at their Yokohama workshop since 2008. Their latest camera strap has been designed for use with heavier single lens reflex cameras and has a wide adjustable shoulder strap for added comfort and strength. well made: Chemex Coffeemaker

On permanent display at MOMA and 'one of 100 best modern devices' according to the New York Times; Chemex's iconic coffeemaker was invented in 1941 by German chemist, Peter Schlumbohm. The handblown hourglass-shaped brewer is designed to be used in conjunction with a patented triple layered paper filter system to produce coffee which is clear, pure, flavourful and without bitterness or sediment. Family owned and run business Cabot & Sons have been making socks in the US since 1978. Designed to withstand the rigours of outdoor pursuits like rock climbing and skiing, their socks are manufactured using high density knitting machines to produce a knit with more stitches per inch for improved durability, warmth and cushioning. I've been wearing their Vermont Brand for the last few years now and they are without doubt the most comfortable and long lasting socks I've ever come across. Available via Runawaystore

Constructed using solid pear wood this magnificent tool cabinet from Swiss furniture maker WohnGesit was made to order for architect Norman Foster. Makes my plastic tool box and collection of cast offs and hand-me-down tools seem ever so slightly pathetic
