Written in 1960, this was the first novel by James Leo Herlihy, the young American author who went on to write Midnight Cowboy. The protagonist, Clint Williams, is in the same stable as Sallinger's Holden Caulfield, and a hugely likeable character. Great prose, clever and funny, this is one of those books that is so easy to read that you don't want it to end and you really want to know how the rest of his life pans out. It's hard to believe this critically acclaimed book is no longer in print, but you can still pick up used copies via Abebooks |
