well made: Nike Air Pegasus

Nike Air Pegasus has been my running shoe of choice for sometime now and although like a lot of sportswear made today it's become something that is simply mass produced in China I still think it's a great product. First released in 1983, Pegasus was designed to be 'a shoe for every runner' and included some unique features not typically found in other shoes in its price range, including the now famous Air-Sole wedged heel. Over the years this popular and versatile running shoe has gone through a number of improvements and changes but has still managed to remain true to it's original core values; comfort, stability and value

well read: For Whom the Bell Tolls

Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls is one of my favourite books (I pretty much like anything to do with the Spanish Civil War). The novel, which was first published in 1940, gives a real insight into the horrors of the war and the dedication of the Republicans to their cause. I loved the strength of the main Spanish characters, some of which were based on people Hemingway had met as a journalist reporting on the war. New and used copies of the book can be ordered on-line via Abebooks

Dog Day Afternoon

If you've not seen this 1975 film directed by Sidney Lumet, and based on a true story about a botched bank robbery attempt, it's definitely worth seeking out. Al Pacino stars but it's John Cazale's performance as the confused and slightly dim-witted Sal that I liked the best

well played: Dusty in Memphis

Although now regularly found in greatest albums of all time lists it's still difficult to understand how this masterpiece from Dusty Springfield was a commercial disaster on release in 1969 and was even initially disliked by the artist.
