Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize winning The Bridge of San Luis Rey was first published in 1927 and is probably the American author and playwright's best known work. The story centres around the accidental deaths of five separate but interrelated travellers and in short explores the question of why bad things happen to essentially good people and vice versa. Well worth a read and another gem from Penguin Books courtesy of my local Oxfam. If you can't be bothered with trawling through charity shops order via Abebooks here |
