Undoubtedly the Rolls Royce of cooking appliances and a great example of a simple pared down design that works beautifully and is built to last a lifetime. Invented in 1922 by Swede Gustav Dalen, the first Aga stoves consisted of a insulated iron box with two ovens of constant temperature. They worked on the principle of heat storage with preset cooking plates for boiling and simmering, topped by the Aga's distinctive hinged plates. Not too much from Dalen's original design has changed over the years and remarkably the cookers still have no switches or dials to master |
