well made: Harris Tweed

Hand made Harris Tweed fabric has been around since the 1830's and production methods have remained little changed through numerous small scale crofters and cotters that populate the Scottish Outer Hebrides. Production is strictly monitored by The Harris Tweed Authority, with independent examiners checking every roll of fabric before it is stamped with the famous Orb and Maltese Cross. The unique wool used to produce this 'Champagne of fabrics' make it an ideal choice for winter outerwear - it's hard wearing, warm and waterproof. Over the last couple of winters I've been hankering after a jacket in Harris Tweed, so I'm really pleased to have at last picked up something which I think is perfect in terms of quality, cut and colour from dependable French label APC
