This novel written by Keith Waterhouse in 1959 is a great short read. Billy Fisher (aka Billy Liar) is quick, clever and extremely amusing. His vivid observations of those around him are sharp and witty and for me it's these characterisations that make the book. It's easy to understand why Billy wishes he could escape into the fantasy world of Ambrosia, where he is appreciated and his extraordinary life is anything but mundane. Available via Abebooks |
