Concrete block sunscreens, like the one above from the Parker Hotel, are used to really good effect all over Palm Springs. The city's early architects and contractors were quick to realise this relatively cheap building material was ideally suited to the often harsh desert climate, offering a shield against sun and wind. Some of the most eye-catching examples I've seen are simply repeat patterns done on a large scale but they can also work equally well on smaller scale residential settings - I've posted a few snaps of some of my favourites after the jump break
